The Economy of the Spirits
Text by the artist
I came back to Mexico DF in December 2022. Since I arrived here I´ve lived a dream of trying to speak up for works that I made in 1985 – 86 as a shy young man in the small rancho San Bartolo on the Patzcuaro Lake. As a result most of these works were never exhibited. Now as an older man I want to be brave and try to reinforce my shy whispers as young into a comprehensible conversation. Making us remember the silence, the voices, the laughters and the shy wispers from a place far from the artscene, but still being more true than any contemporary tornado of loud voices telling the tale of a rich life based on one´s own work…
Sitting silent in the light smoke of a fire with a cup of camomile thé made from freshly picked flowers served with honey from other flowers than most, after having eaten the best fresh food ever. Listening to the donkeys roar in the dark and remembering the soft words spoken in a village from a time of even longer time passing. The fire flies reminding you that there was a magic world of light here long before the cars blinded us. Mario was one of the most luminious friends I´ve had. I´m honored to show my new very light suitcase as I think of him and of us left behind here in the dark. Time is here now. Let’s try to not be shy together! Come and play!
One evening pop up exhibition at Mario Rangel Faz house in MIxcoac, Mexico City.
